REVIEW: Retro Video Club at Saint Lukes

Updated: Oct 19, 2019

The boys from the capital travelled to Glasgow to play their biggest headline gig as yet, and it was a good one. Retro Video Club are another one of Scotland’s high rising talents and they are certainly showing why they’re regarded so high here.

As the band were waiting to take the stage, two songs played before hand to create loads of atmosphere and get the crowd hyped and ready for the band. First, they played worldwide song, ‘Better Off Alone’ that had the crowd jumping. Then the band walked on to ‘Sweet Caroline’ playing in the background, however the crowd sang louder than the speaker.

Retro Video Club kicked the gig off with popular song, ‘3AM’. This seen the audience go crazy from front to back. The unique voice of Liam Allison and his swagger, the quality of bass and guitarist players, Sam McGill and Michael Ward and Kieran Burt as drummer, really show what the band are all about. Starting off with ‘3AM’ was a great set-list opener to show the crowd exactly what they were in for all night

The band also included a new song which the crowd were eager to hear. A song called, ‘History’ which matched the groups usual Rock ‘n’ Roll mixed with indie style. It started off slow but kept building up every verse. Then when It finally kicked in it was back to the outstanding Retro Video Club vibe. The fans are now desperate for the song to be released.

Along with a new song, the band also played a few old ones. The main one being, ‘Noir’ which was the best moment of night. As the lead singer, Liam Allison played this one alone with just an acoustic guitar, it was a really special song which had the crowd singing along. As the crowd out sang Liam for the chorus, he decided to mix it in with DMA’S song, ‘Delete’. This was an amazing cover and one Liam Allison’s voice worked well with. This song made the night and showed why the band are now being able to play such iconic venues such as Saint Lukes.

Just before playing their last tune, the group announced a new gig coming up in December. As playing Saint Lukes was their biggest gig, the band have decided to top it with playing back in their hometown. Retro Video Club are now playing Edinburgh Assembly Rooms Music Hall with tickets going on sale on Friday.

After announcing that, they ended the night on an even bigger high and gave the crowd one last time to go mental. They finished the show off with playing their latest release, ‘Night In’. This seen the crowd go wild. An absolute belter of a show and I’m sure Glasgow are now part of the bands ever-growing club.
