INTERVIEW: Kieren Webster from The View

Originating from the streets of Dundee, The View were a world wide known band due to their outrangously unique sound. Not to mention having a single charted at #3. A massive part of their success was bassist, Kieren Webster. I spoke with Keiren to discuss The View and also his new side project, Web.

What was it like growing up in Dundee?

Really good actually, especially around the time when The View was taking off as there was a great music scene about then.

Who were your early musical influences?

Oasis were a big one for me personally. The Beatles, The Roses and later on the Libertines. I was also into other styles of music but the usual names were the ones that would be my early influences I would say.

When did you realise that the band could really do something?

Our gigs were packed out from early doors. That alone made it clear we had something going at the pretty early stages.

What was I like being so young and having to deal with being so popular around the world?

We just got on with it the best we could at the time. There wasn’t much time to take it all in.

Same Jeans charted at #3 in the UK single charts, how did that feel at the time?

It wasn’t something we particularly noticed. It was great at the time, but again wasn’t something we stopped to take in to be honest with you.

Favourite tune you’ve written?

I’m not really one to have a favourite but I would probably say Superstar Tradesman or Shock Horror if I had to choose. A lot of that Is due to the good memories of playing those live. In all fairness, i’m really enjoying playing the new songs with Web so that might change in the near future.

How did it come about forming your new band, Web?

Andy(Bassist) started coming round the flat for a Jam and then we quickly got Gav in on drums then started rehearsing. Things took shape quite quickly after that which was class.

Your first single, Haze hit all streaming platforms on 27th of March. How was it finally releasing your debut single?

It’s great to have our first single out. The response has been good so far and we are really looking forward to playing it live now that more people have heard it.

Plans for the near future?

More new music and our first tour has been rescheduled for November so looking forward to that.
