REVIEW: Maybe California by The Snuts

Updated: Oct 19, 2019

The Snuts are back by popular demand after releasing their latest single, ‘Maybe California’. The West-Lothian band have been teasing their fans with playing the song live when supporting Lewis Capaldi for summer sessions this year.

The tune marks the end to summer however, after listening to the song you’ll wish summer was back. The tune takes on a bright and catchy vibe which provides a terrific melody for the song. The song arrives on the back of the groups last release, ‘All Your Friends’ that brought great praise from their support and music critics.

The intro of the song will have you singing it in your head for days. As the back base is met with a, ‘Ooh-Ooh-La-La-La-La’ which then fades into the first verse. As soon as the first verse hits, you recognise lead singer, Jack Cochrane’s voice is getting better and better. You especially notice it in this one as his unique voice carries the flow of the song.

The different change in style for ‘Maybe California’ surprised the public due to the band usually having a total indie-rock ‘n’ roll vibe to their singles. However, this one doesn’t have the long guitar solos are gives off any of the bands past song experiences. The song is a lot lighter and one that the listeners can dance along to easily.

The Snuts are making it big time in Scotland after selling out their Scottish dates on their new UK tour on the back of playing in front on 20,000 at TRNSMT in summer. Releasing tune after tune, the band is making more and more noise around the music scene. The once called ‘underrated’ are now the ‘must see’ band.
