REVIEW: Dictator at Sneaky Pete’s

Up and coming West-Lothian band, Dictator played to a packed out crowd in the capital and didn’t disappoint. The band showed their growing fan base what they were all about after selling out Sneaky Pete‘s.

If you attended the gig, you’ve started your weekend on the right foot. Dictator played an hour set-list full of new tunes and even played a cover of popular new artist, Billie Eilish.

Playing unreleased songs can go both ways. Can sometimes be boring due to the crowd not knowing the lyrics of the tunes. However, that was not the case with Dictator. It was a chance to show off their unique style and give the people of Edinburgh a taste of what’s to come.

One song that definitely impressed was a song called, ‘Rubix Cube’. It was different from most bands and had a great dance vibe to it. What also didn’t go unnoticed was band members stage presence. The confidence these boys showed will only help them on their already promising careers.

What was really refreshing to hear from a male group was their strong stance on the misrepresentation of female acts. Throughout festivals all over the world, female acts are rarely named headliners or even on the bill for that matter. The band made the decision that they’d only do covers from female artists and for tonight’s gig it was Billie Eilish new song, No Time To Die’ which is for the new James Bond film. A great cover which fitted in with the set-list very nicely.

The set-list was all building up to the last two tunes. The ones the crowd had been waiting for. ‘Anthem For A Doomed Youth’ and ‘Taped Up’ have had an unbelievable reception on Spotify, and it was no different at Sneaky Petes. Both hard hitting and two songs that rounded the night of perfectly.

Dictator are next on the road supporting with fellow West-Lothian band, Mark Sharp And The Bicycle Thieves in Newcastle. Buy tickets here via the link https://www.seetickets.com/event/mark-sharp-the-bicycle-thieves/the-head-of-steam/1467944
