REVIEW: P.P Arnold at Paisley Spree Festival

Updated: Oct 19, 2019

American soul legend, P.P Arnold travelled to Paisley to perform the sublime Paisley Spree Festival. This was a gig for the older generation, however, one that had everyone dancing and enjoying the outstanding voice of P.P Arnold.

As she entered the stage she was greeted with cheers, whistles and cries which was expected. However, she was not alone on stage. The singer was joined with backing singers and the one and only Steve Cradock, known for being part of Ocean Colour Scene. He had helped produce P.P Arnolds new album, ‘The new adventures of P.P Arnold’ which the crowd were eager to hear.

She kicked off the gig with popular song, ‘Baby Blue’ that had the crowd going. The voice of P.P Arnold has never left and is still alive and kicking even at the age of 73. Not only was the music entertaining the audience, she had so many stories of first arriving in America to then going onto talk about the people who have helped her in her unbelieve music career such as Paul Weller.

The crowd danced and listened to the wonderful music provided. The two main songs that really had the crowd grooving was her two hits. ‘The first cut is the deepest’ and ‘Angel of the morning’ were the top tunes the audience enjoyed the most, and there’s no wonder why.

Playing old songs with a great mix with her new album was brilliant as the crowd really got the overall P.P Arnold experience.

Along with the great mix of tunes, the crowd also got a cover of worldwide group, The Beatles. This tied in with the crowd as it was an older majority and the choice of song was one that done the crowd justice. P.P Arnold and Steve Cradock played ‘Eleanor Rigby’ which rounded off a brilliant Set-list.

P.P Arnold is just one of many acts who have showed off their talent at the Paisley Spree Festival and one that just shows the power of soul music which is still heavily appreciated in Scotland.
